On Saturday, October 31st I began filming my commercial with my actor. Due to insufficient funds, as foreseen, we filmed at Northgate Park instead of an indoor gym at L.A. Fitness. The actor came to the park in costume, gym shorts, a white t-shirt, and sneakers. I ,of course, was directing the actor through the scenes. Before filming him with the ball, I took a close-up shot of the Spalding basketball. For the next scene I had him dribble the basketball from the half court line. This was taken as a mid shot with me and the actor facing each other. Next, I filmed him traveling down the court, a tracking shot this time instead of a mid. When recording the jump shot scene a few things had to be considered. Due to the pandemic the hoop was blocked with a bar in the middle of it, so shots were unable to go in. With this in mind, I just filmed the jump shot. The ball in the air after the shot, however had taken multiple takes. For the layup scene, I only filmed him dribbling from the three point line going for the layup. After filming, the actor and I walked to a location where there is a lone basketball hoop. It was here, that we recorded the ending result of the jump shot and layup. It took multiple takes, but we recorded the ball sinking in the hoop. "Nothing but net" would be the best way to describe the shot. The filming process took a little over 45 minutes. I even began to sweat as we filmed, similar to the actor, probably because of the constant movement. You can see that I was perspiring as we filmed, in the photo below.
