                                             Research Blog: The Last Three Minutes

            The Last Three Minutes is a short film directed by Po Chan in 2010. It is a five-minute short film drama just like how my short film will be. In it the main character, a janitor, has his life replayed for him after suffering what seems to be a cardiac arrest. A common element of dramas is making the audience feel involved in a way with the story. The film is shown to the audience from the janitor’s point of view. A camera angle used to give the audience a more intimate view with the character. Another element of drama is evoking heavy emotions to have the audience feel for the character. The film does this with these flashbacks of the character from his worst moments to his earliest memories. The director does this to properly effect the viewer in sympathizing with the dying character. He uses this clear crystal to view his life. Starting from his wife leaving him, to when they were happy together. From fighting in the war to his elementary school days. Ultimately to his birth where the audience sees that he received the stone he’s currently using from his parents. Throughout the flashbacks the audience hears background music played over. Nondiegetic sounds bring the audience to feel even more for the character, feeling as if they lived his life. This film is a great example of what I can do for my short film. My character collapses the same as the janitor with much to think about. I know I can’t do everything that this production has done but it gave me great ideas as to what my group can do. Planning: Storyboard

I started the opening of the play with a gradual opening to create a bit of suspense but, also to give the audience some time to get ready. The added track shot also adds a feel of the audience being their walking with jack, it's overall more intimate. Then after the track shot, there is a fast shot of the play and or movie getting straight to the point. (starting the show) The black screen transition is untimely to show the audience that one scene has ended and that was moving on to something else. This helps with older audience viewers as well guiding them to the next scene. The close-up shots added also add drama with it being a shot that happens out of nowhere. Also, the back and forth shots of jack's pacing add suspense as well to over exaggerate the feeling that's taking place.                                                  Research Blog: Soft (2007)               Soft (2007) is a tense short film drama directed by Simon Ellis. The film is fifteen minutes long and depicts the terrorizing of a father and son by neighborhood teens. Throughout the film we see the emotions of the characters. The father remains visibly scared of the young teens but the son remains angry. The director uses close ups to give the audience a better understanding of the characters emotions. The conflict of the film is that while they are being terrorized the father doesn’t want to retaliate because of his fear and tries to keep the son from doing anything. Planning for my Spalding Basketball commercial

                                                           Planning Blog  Props   There won't really be too much if any props in the commercial. Costumes   In the commercial, the actor(s) will have on appropriate gym clothes. He will wear athletic gym shorts, with a tank top that is playable in. Basketball shoes would have to be mandatory, for grip on the court and best performance. The actor may wear compression tights, depending on the conditions.
