Critical Reflection
How do your products represent social groups or issues?
My project shows the drastic effect that anxiety can have on your life. The overwhelming list of things to do overtook Jack to a place of no return. The number of things he had to do got to be too much which is what happens to a lot of people in the everyday life. The film shows what people go through when they are overwhelmingly attacked by various different things to do. It's almost or is a great example of life and how hard it is. So overall our film shows the dark side of what life can bring people to do. The anxiety of having a lot of things on your plate that's overwhelming. The social group of the people who commit suicide also relates to our film. This is a relation due to the stresses of life that they have been enduring. Which ultimately leads to taking their life showing once again the drastic effects of life. Ever since the earth was round and people were on this planet many people have taken their lives to the countless amount of pressure, stress, and anxiety that they're in. The number of people who take their lives grows every year. So the film helps people see some of the things those people feel and go through. So when talking about social issues it attacks suicide and what the amount of pressure can do to a person. Not saying that Jack killed himself but the huge amount of work to get done overwhelmed him causing him to die.
When it comes to branding I can say that throughout the production we had to let everyone know about the short film, “Jack” in extensive ways. Every stage was marketing the film of course except when we finally uploaded it. The website was put together to let audiences know about the film just like any normal movie. In creating it the site had to be enough to convince the audience to attend a screening but in this case just viewing it on their mobile device. Social media helped bring this together also. The Twitter account was reaching a mix of the younger and older audiences out there unlike Instagram and Facebook where it is more one sided. Instagram in my opinion gave the film a platform to reach younger audiences and convince them to watch the film. Facebook, again, in my opinion reaches older audiences and gets them to watch the film. Altogether this social media was a great marketing scheme to have audiences intrigued about the film and maybe enough to watch it. Furthermore, the postcard was also an essential part of the overall development and “branding” If seen by others thee amount of information on it exposes then production and as a result the whole film to those who may not even have social media.
How do your products engage with the audience?
The product engages with the audience by being a short film/movie.
First and foremost the product being a film helps people to understand what putting out by being easier to understand than a book. Simply by showing your everything without having to go into the depth of reading a book or novel. It's also very entertaining with a twist at the end. Also due to it being a film people can share it with their friends and family bringing more attention to the problem. Which all around helps everyone endure these emotions. Ultimately being a film helps get our point across because people like being able to not do too much work(lazy). Meaning most people would go with this role of a project due to its easiness of understanding the problem. The engagement of the audience would stem from it being a film able to be seen on YouTube. This is great because YouTube is free for all and anyone to watch. Meaning people will be able to share the film with their friends and will see the films without any strings attached. The also great thing about YouTube is the ability to get a more advanced version of it that costs money. But the great thing about is you able to watch our film on the go. So if you're at church, school, or a park you're able to watch. Or just ultimately anywhere there's no wifi or internet. The film is able to be watched on YouTube also helped us as creators to get it out to a vast amount of people.
How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?
Well the finished product can be said to have challenged the conventions of students and their mental health. The character Jack was under an insurmountable amount of pressure. From his football games, to his school work and his college prospects. This is relatable as well, as high school students today go through the same amount of pressure or even more. It’s all kept under the guise of a determined student who is just involved. In reality these students keep face about them in order to get to the level they believe they can reach. It shouldn’t be like this at all; students should be able to have breaks and not only when it’s mandatory holidays. Shouldn’t be seen as slackers either if they decide to take one day off, because overall those days off can benefit each student in the future for the greater good. “Jack” worked himself to death trying to be perfect or as great as he can. Students should never have to reach that point at all.
