CCR Music Video

Creative Critical Reflection

1.      How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

The lyrics behind the song really represented how most rap music videos are nowadays. A lot of the famous rappers now brag about their accomplishments and conquests. Now I was more tasteful in the filming of the video, but it didn’t show the most extravagant parts of a rap music video. I showed the actor having possession of a vehicle, a nice scenery, one of the latest iPhones to come out, and the appearance of friends/companions. I don’t have the money to include the aspects that are vitalized in actual music videos, however. In these videos there’s more money and jewelry that’s flaunted. Women are even used for attraction in the videos. There was no challenge to any conventions within the music video, not that it’s impossible. Some music videos from rappers can show the oppression of the past, trials and tribulation, and attack the status quo.

 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My product is a music video, to entertain the audience. In this case is a rap music video so those who prefer rap music would make up most of the audience. nowadays music videos are distributed on all kinds of social media and streaming services. For example, some artist can upload it to their Instagram using Instagram TV. Apple music has an option to show some music videos while listening to some songs, as does Spotify but only snippets are shown that are taken from music videos. But most of all YouTube and YouTube Music are where most music videos are uploaded to be viewed. I uploaded my music video to YouTube to be viewed it's really the best source to find and watch a music video.

 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills were already well developed after my commercial project. For this project however, there was more planning and scheduling ahead. Time management became more of an importance in this production to say in lesser words. It was the week of Thanksgiving, so both the actor and I were with family for most of the week. When we finally came together to start filming, there was only a specific time period to do so. It had to begin in the afternoon but before it became dark, which was hard now due to the recent time change. Through it all we made it through, but it was the first day of filming where I realized we had to get started more earlier because night just crept upon us unknowingly. With my new sense of time management in production, I can do better in my future productions when it comes to planning the production out.

4.      How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

Well, to begin with, I used my iPhone XR to conduct the filmmaking. The benefits of having this is that the scenes were able to be recorded in 4K definition. I used the phone to record the clean version of the song used in the music video, “Got it On Me” I also recorded all the scenes in landscape mode. After filming, I dumped all my scenes onto my computer, putting them in through Gmail. After doing so, I used the ClipChamp application in order to edit the and compile the scenes together. I proceeded to edit the scenes, make cuts where necessary and to the best of my ability try to make a good music video. After completing the editing process, I had to export my video onto YouTube. The difference between this production and my last production was that the exporting took longer to complete this time around, and the video was only thirty seconds longer.
