Editing my Music Video

Image
Editing Music Video      To edit my blog I used the same application that I used for my commercial project, ClipChamp. Before editing I get some food to enjoy and help me focus on the task at hand. A bottle of water and pretzels are really my go to. Now in editing, I first dumped the audio for the radio edit of "Got it on Me" onto my laptop. I then input the audio into ClipChamp. I realized I had so many takes of some scenes when trying to get it on my laptop. It was a hassle in time to get them all on the laptop. After doing so I dumped my individual videos/scenes, and began editing them on the app. Some scenes had to be cut in their timing to better fit the run time however. Transitions were added to some scenes to make it more similar t...

Filming Music Video

Image
Day one of filming was a productive day. My choice of actors were the same as my last production. I was already comfortable with the actor and did not have anyone else who wanted to participate. So, the actor and I are carrying the production once again. First day of filming had to be held off for an hour and thirty minutes because of a missing actor. This really messed up the scheduling of the day. We were able to film about half of the scenes that are in my storyboard. It was getting dark at around 5. This was good for filming some scenes like the car and indoor scenes. Although, the scenes I wanted to get done would have to be done in some actual lighting to perfectly capture the scene. The car scenes that were filmed had to be retaken multiple times. The actor kept laughing and ruined a lot of shots. In result of the actor laughing, I laughed and ruined some recording of some shots. My establishing shot scene was taken multiple times, only because I was trying t...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
Storyboard  The first scene will be an establishing shot at the apartments where the music video will take place. Second scene is a mid shot of actor walking in street. The third scene is a low angle shot of actor acting casually as he’s being filmed. This fourth scene is a panning shot, capturing the actor moving as if solitary character. The fifth scene is a Dutch angle of the actor looking in the direction of camera, casually sitting. Sixth scene is a mid shot of actor in car driving. The seventh scene is a two-shot, since it consists of actors conversing, not acknowledging the camera. The eighth scene is a tilting shot of actor standing still in hallway. The ninth scene is a teaching shot of the actor driving the vehicle on the road. The tenth scene i...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Research: Music Video Conventions      I will be filming a rap music video for my upcoming music video. In these type of music videos, the context can be about any and everything. It can depend on the rappers' gender, controversies going on, personal life, etc. The beginning of rap videos were usually "gangster" like and were focused life in the projects with the struggle of death and drugs surrounding their environment. The 80's and 90's music videos were really focused on violence and drugs. As the 2000's came in, women started to get into the rap game. Their music videos could be about the loss of a love, new found love, poverty and struggle. The music videos also showed or set trends for the general public. Baggy shorts and clothing, for example,  were hugely ...

Planning for my Music Video

Planning Blog Song Title: The song I will be using in the music video is "Got It on Me" by Pop Smoke. The song would have t be the radio edit version due to profanity in the song.  Props: Since it's a rap song   the props involved would have to be "flashy" like most rap videos are. The context of the song also, implies having a lot, since he "got it" on him. So, the props would be the cars used in the vid. Also, fake prop jewelry to resemble the actual ones rappers wear. Costumes:  The actor(s) costumes consist of jeans, ripped and regular. Hoodies that show expensiveness, like $50+ Hollister hoodies. There will also be shirts, like Polo, Versace, Michael Kors, Burberry, etc. Shoes will be sneakers,...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Intro Blog          For my upcoming music video, I will be working alone. I would work with others, but doing things on my own is really how I do things. I don't want to have to rely on other people and have any conflicts occur in the process of getting the video done. Although, there is one person I would work with, but even he elected to work by himself for the music video. The song I will be doing for the music video is the radio edit version of "Got it on me" by Pop Smoke. You might be asking, "Why this song?" The backstory behind it is actually intricate. Well this year the rapper, Pop Smoke, was killed in hi...

Creative Critical Reflection

Creative Critical Reflection 1.                     1.  How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social                     groups or issues? My product does not challenge any conventions. It just represents those of us who have fun with sports in their life. Although even doing that is challenging as everyone playing sports must be cautious now of covid-19. In fact Covid-19 has postponed numerous programs over the year, whether basketball, football, or soccer. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? I think the commercial keeps the audience engaged with interest, makes them want to buy a Spalding basketball. I believe that it would be distributed as an advertisement online on services like, YouTube, for example. Also, it would be shown on televisi...

Commercial Blog Spalding Basketball

Image
Commercial Blog: Spalding  Filming this commercial was fun. Directing was fun, felt like I had a lot of power in production. The actor himself said he enjoyed the experience. At one point it was tense for the actor, he felt nervous. To ease him up we played a game against one another for fun. That really got him in the mood to actually play in front of the camera. While there were some challenges in production, I believe my decisions made it easier throughout filming day. Like completing the shooting portion at another basket in the neighborhood for example. I believe I could have done better in some aspects when it came to editing. The cuts could have been more subtle. The voiceover that I implemented could have been better. I had no enthusiasm in it, I was trying to go for a James Earl Jones vibe. Just came out monotonous though. No matter how many ...

1 Editing Blog

Editing Blog: Duration, cuts, voice, music         After inserting my scenes, I aligned them correctly by order. All scenes from filming were used, but there had to be some cuts in the duration of some clips. The jump shot had to be trimmed along with the layup scene. The scenes had to be cut because of the shots from the actor not going in due to bars being on the hoops at the park. With the shots not being able to be filmed going through the basket, I inserted some film of shots being made at a different location instead. The cuts may seem obvious that the location was different from the original venue. I'm a little embarrassed about that, not what I pictured but it's better than nothing. There are nine scenes in total, the run time of the commercial was a little over thirty seconds. I slowed down one particular scene of the ball spiraling in the air. That's the only scene I altered the timing of while editing the commercial. In editing I put transitions in be...

1 Filming Blog

Filming Blog: Northgate     On Saturday, October 31st I began filming my commercial with my actor. Due to insufficient funds, as foreseen, we filmed at Northgate Park instead of an indoor gym at L.A. Fitness. The actor came to the park in costume, gym shorts, a white t-shirt, and sneakers. I ,of course, was directing the actor through the scenes. Before filming him with the ball, I took a close-up shot of the Spalding basketball. For the next scene I had him dribble the basketball from the half court line. This was taken as a mid shot with me and the actor facing each other. Next, I filmed him traveling down the court, a tracking shot this time instead of a mid. When recordin...
